POSTAL OPERATIONS RESUMING IN GULF COAST
OPERATIONS RESUMING. Power is making its way back into the Gulf Coast storm-damaged areas and Post Offices are taking full advantage of it. The number of Texas offices offering partial services stands at 59. Cleanup is slow-going for storm-stricken Louisiana — retail and delivery services remain suspended to 45 Louisiana offices.

“Hold for pickup” endorsement launches today
Need to pick up a new computer over the weekend? Thanks to a new USPS endorsement called “Hold For Pickup,” you’ll be able to do just that at a nearby Post Office.
The new “Hold For Pickup” endorsement. Shippers will use it when sending bulky and high-value goods they don’t want left at the door.
Dell, Inc., one of the world’s largest direct-to-consumer shippers, will be offering free shipping now through the holiday season for customers who would prefer to pick up their merchandise at a local Post Office. Packages with the “Hold For Pickup” endorsement are drop shipped to a designated postal facility. The shipper is responsible for notifying the customer that the package has arrived and is available for pickup at that location.
“Dell is one of the world’s largest parcel shippers and shipped millions of parcels last year with one of our competitors,” says Package Services Manager Jim Cochrane. “Dell is a market leader and this offering will open other doors and opportunities.”
Offered initially with Parcel Select service, “Hold For Pickup” is designed to meet the unique needs of shippers of bulky and high-value goods who don’t want their merchandise left at the customer’s door. The endorsement will be available on other classes of mail in the future.

POSTAL SERVICE SUSPENDS MAIL DELIVERY IN SEVERAL EAST TEXAS TOWNS FOR SATURDAY, SEPT. 24
The U.S. Postal Service is suspending mail delivery in some areas of East Texas. The Dallas District — which includes the East Texas area — announced today that delivery is suspended in the following ZIP Codes: 755, 756, 757, 758 and 759.
Normal mail delivery is expected to return to most areas on Monday, Sept. 26. However, the Postal Service will make decisions based on the storm's continuing path. Notification will be given as these impacted ZIP Codes return to normal delivery status.
The decision only affects mail delivery. Post Offices in the affected ZIP Codes are open their normal hours for retail services.

This emergency action has been taken due to the mandatory evacuations in these areas due to Hurricane Rita.

Effective immediately, retail and delivery service as well as drop shipments of Standard, Periodicals and Parcels are suspended to all offices in Louisiana’s 700-708 ZIP Code areas.

POSTAL SERVICE SUSPENDS MAIL DELIVERY IN SEVERAL EAST TEXAS TOWNS FOR SATURDAY, SEPT. 24
The U.S. Postal Service is suspending mail delivery in some areas of East Texas. The Dallas District — which includes the East Texas area — announced today that delivery is suspended in the following ZIP Codes: 755, 756, 757, 758 and 759.
Normal mail delivery is expected to return to most areas on Monday, Sept. 26. However, the Postal Service will make decisions based on the storm's continuing path. Notification will be given as these impacted ZIP Codes return to normal delivery status.
The decision only affects mail delivery. Post Offices in the affected ZIP Codes are open their normal hours for retail services.

Express Mail embargoed to Dallas, Houston and parts of Louisiana.
Effective immediately, the Postal Service is not accepting Express Mail for destinations in the Dallas 755-759 ZIP Code areas, the Houston 770-778 ZIP Code areas or Louisiana’s 700, 701 and 704 ZIP Code areas.
The embargo is scheduled to last throughout the weekend. This message will be updated as conditions change.

Suspension of Drop Shipments into Texas 3-digit ZIP Codes 770, 773, 774, 775, 776, 777, 779, 783 and 784.
Effective immediately, all drop shipments into 3-digit ZIP Codes 770, 773, 774, 775, 776, 777, 779, 783 and 784 are suspended until further notice. Under no circumstances should drop shipments for these ZIP Codes be entered at alternate sites. This emergency action has been taken due to the mandatory evacuations in these areas due to Hurricane Rita.
The suspension of drop shipments to ZIP Code area 785 has been lifted.
Retail and Delivery Service suspended to ZIP Codes 770, 773, 774, 775, 776, 777, 779, 783 and 784.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, retail and delivery service in the following 3-digit Texas ZIP Code ranges are suspended: 770, 773, 774, 775, 776, 777, 779, 783 and 784.

WASHINGTON - Neither rain...nor floods or hurricanes will stay the U.S. Postal Service from connecting people to their mail. Following the same steps it took to minimize mail disruption during Hurricane Katrina, the Postal Service is moving to protect its employees and the mail in the path of Hurricane Rita.
Mail destined for Houston and other areas in the expected path of Rita's landfall is being held at its place of origin in order to protect as many mail pieces as possible. Postal operations in any area covered by a mandatory evacuation order have been suspended. This includes delivery, collection, Post Office box and retail services, and mail processing. Mail currently in facilities in Rita's path, along with postal vehicles and equipment, are being moved to higher ground in anticipation of flooding.
Local postal officials are working with state and federal authorities to track weather and transportation issues to determine if other service adjustments are necessary. After the storm passes, the Postal Service is ready to return to normal operations as quickly and safely as possible.
