Hurricane Dennis Update

Hurricane Dennis is nearing land as a Category 4 and is the most intense hurricane to ever reach land in the Gulf Coast area this early in hurricane season. Wide-spread damage, flooding and power outages are expected. It is anticipated that communications will be difficult for the first 24 hours after the hurricane reaches landfall. This message will be updated as information becomes available. Updates will occur no less than twice daily for as long as necessary.

Here are the most recent service updates as of 1 p.m. ET, July 10:

North Florida District - All postal facilities in ZIP Code areas 325, including the Pensacola Processing and Distribution Center, Delivery and Retail Units are presently closed. Pensacola is believed to be in the direct path of Hurricane Dennis as it comes on shore. No Express Mail delivery will be made Sunday, July 10 and drop shipments within the 325 ZIP Code area are suspended. Delivery, Post Office Box and Retail Services information will be updated once the impact of the hurricane is known. Panama City (ZIP Code area 324) is also closed to Drop Shipments at the plant and in its delivery and retail units under further notice. In the Panama City area, delivery and customer service operations are expected to be normal on Monday morning.

Alabama District - All postal facilities in the Mobile area are presently closed. Mobile is believed to be in the direct path of Hurricane Dennis as it reaches landfall. All Drop Shipments to the Mobile Processing and Distribution Center (ZIP Code areas 363-366) or its surrounding delivery and retail facilities (ZIP Code areas 365, 366) are suspended until further notice. This message will be updated with individual office closures as soon as that information is known.

South Florida District - All suspensions and closures have been lifted. Normal operations are expected beginning Monday, July 11.

Mississippi District - Drop Shipments to the Gulfport Plant (ZIP Code Area 394-396) and its surrounding delivery and retail facilities (ZIP Code area 395) are suspended until further notice. This message will be updated with individual office closures as soon as that information is known.
