Hurricane Katrina Update:

At 2:00 PM EDT the center of Hurricane Katrina — a Category 2 hurricane — was located about 60 miles west-northwest of Key West, FL, and moving away from Florida and the Keys with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. Forecasters are expecting the storm to gain strength as it moves into open water over the Gulf Coast.

South Florida District
All mail processing plants resumed operations today at 3 p.m. Drop shipments to plant facilities resumed at 3 p.m.

All retail and delivery offices in ZIP Codes 330, 331 and 332 are closed today and won’t re-open until tomorrow morning. Drop shipments to retail and delivery units in these ZIP Codes will resume tomorrow. Currently, 85% of the retail and delivery units are without power. There are major road closures, downed trees and flooding throughout the area.

There is no mail delivery today in the South Florida District. Delivery will resume tomorrow.

All other Districts are fully operational at this time.
