Hurricane Dennis Update #3 - FL, AL, MS Closures

Hurricane Dennis Update
Hurricane Dennis continues to move towards landfall in the Gulf Coast. Conditions are expected to worsen throughout the next 48-72 hours and updates will be provided at least twice a day for as long as necessary.

Here are the most recent service updates as of 6 p.m. ET, July 9:

North Florida District - Hurricane Dennis is expected to reach landfall in the Pensacola area Sunday afternoon. The Pensacola airport is closing today, July 9, at 8 p.m. Any transportation from the Jacksonville Bulk Mail Center scheduled to arrive in Pensacola after 8 p.m. will be canceled. The Pensacola Processing and Distribution Center will operate until 8 p.m. and then operations will be suspended until Monday at 7 a.m. Due to widespread evacuations, many areas in ZIP Codes 325 did not have delivery and/or retail services Saturday. Depending on conditions, plans are to resume delivery and retail operations Monday, July 11. Destination Delivery Unit Drop Shipments to ZIP Codes within 324 and 325 are suspended until further notice. Drop Shipments into both the Pensacola and Panama City Processing and Distribution Centers are suspended until further notice.

Alabama District - Mobile County and Baldwin County south of Interstate 10 have begun mandatory evacuation. Interstate 65 is closed to southbound traffic from Stockton to Montgomery. The Mobile Processing and Distribution Center is operating without power. Drop shipments to the Mobile P&DC are being accepted until midnight Saturday, July 9. Due to road closures, accessibility to the Mobile P&DC is very limited. Mandatory evacuations are in place and restricted delivery* and retail services are offered, however, most units in the following ZIP Codes will close as soon as the carriers return to the office: Mobile County - ZIP Codes, 36509, 36525, 36575, 36572, 36582, 36541, 36560, 36523, 36505, 36512, 36528, 36601, 36587, 36571, 36568, 36521, 36522 and 36544; Baldwin County - ZIP Codes 36526, 36551, 36567, 36574, 36532, 36535, 36576, 36580, 36530, 36535, 36549, 36511, 36542, and 36561.

South Florida District - The hurricane warning is still in effect for the lower Keys. It has been lifted for the upper and middle Keys. Tropical storm warnings remain in effect from the Golden Isles (Miami/Dade County) south to middle Keys. Due to power outages, the following Florida retail units are not operational: MLK Miami, 33147; Ocean View Miami Beach, 33140; Marathon, 33050; Miami Springs Finance Unit, 33266; Shenandoah, 33245; Edison Center, 33151, and Flamingo, 33027. The following units are closed for delivery, Post Office Box and retail services as well as carrier pickup online notification: Key West and Flagler Beach Finance Unit - ZIP Codes 33040, 33041 and 33045; Summerland Key, 33042; Long Key, 33001, and Big Pine Key, 33043.

Mississippi District - Gulfport area is under voluntary evacuation orders with a 5 p.m. curfew. The Gulfport Processing and Distribution Center is operational. Employees with postal identification are being permitted to travel to and from work after curfew.

* Restricted delivery is Express Mail, medications, First Class Mail providing we have access to the area (no downed power lines, flooded roads, etc.)
