Extended Retail Hours Plan helps keep USPS competitive

Extended Retail Hours Plan helps keep USPS competitive

USPS is extending hours in selected Post Offices around the country — as late as 7 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The message of the Extended Retail Hours Plan is simple: “We’re open later to serve you better.”

“Our prices are competitive and our service is great,” said Deputy PMG Pat Donahoe. “On top of that, we’re extending hours for added convenience. That means better value for our customers.”

It’s the kind of customer focus that will build loyalty, grow our business in a shipping market that has never been so competitive, and ultimately bring in more revenue.

The first locations with extended hours are seeing excellent results. Greater Indiana District increased walk-in revenue by more than $400,000 when eight Indianapolis-area Post Offices began staying open until 7 p.m.

Office hours will be extended at 1,082 Post Offices this year. Offices selected for extended hours handle 30% of retail package volume and are located within five miles of a competitor’s retail store.

Advertising and Retail Marketing have the tools Post Offices need to let customers know about the added convenience. Check out Message Maker for new extended hours banners, postcards and window clings. Go to on Blue to see the extended hours customizable materials that are available.
