USPS: Service Updates Related to the Gulf Coast Hurricanes

Standard Mail (Letters and Flats) and Periodicals suspended for ZIP Codes 395, 700, 701 and 706.

Alabama (Current as of 9/29/05 - 3 p.m.)

All Alabama offices are unaffected or have returned to full service.

Drop shipments are resumed by appointment only in ZIP Codes 365 and 366. Drop shipments for these zones will not be accepted without appointments.

Louisiana (Current as of 9/29/05 - 3 p.m.)

Express Mail embargoed to parts of Louisiana.

Effective immediately, the Postal Service is not accepting Express Mail for destinations in Louisiana’s 700, 701 and 706 ZIP Code areas.

The suspension of Standard Mail (Letters and Flats) and Periodicals Mail remains in effect for ZIP Codes 700, 701 and 706.

Suspension of retail, delivery service and drop shipments to Louisiana ZIP Codes 700, 701, and 706.

Effective immediately, retail and delivery service as well as drop shipments of Standard, Periodicals and Parcels are suspended to offices in Louisiana's 700, 701, and 706 ZIP Code areas.

DADC Periodicals Drops for ADC New Orleans LA 700

Periodicals and news publications formerly dropped at the DADC entry level into ADC New Orleans LA 700 should now be dropped at the Bulk Mail Center in Memphis, TN, 38999 — excluding any mail for ZIP Codes where service is suspended.

To receive the best service for these publications, it is strongly recommended that direct containers for 325, 365, 366 and 394 be drop shipped into the appropriate destination SCF entry points (DSCF) for the following locations as listed in DMM L005:

New Orleans Processing and Distribution Center operations remain suspended until further notice. Retail and delivery services remain suspended for the following ZIP Codes in the City of New Orleans (70113, 70114, 70115, 70117, 70118, 70119, 70122, 70124, 70126, 70127, 70129, 70130, 70141) and the following offices and ZIP Codes, primarily to the south and east of New Orleans: Arabi (70032); Boothville (70038); Braithwaite (70040); Buras (70041); Chalmette (70043); Empire (70050); Meraux (70075); Pointe A La Hache (70082); Port Sulphur (70083); Saint Bernard (70085); Venice (70091); Violet (70092); Grand Isle (70358); Montegut (70377) and one 704 ZIP Code: Talisheek (70464).

Delivery and retail services are also suspended to the following 705 ZIP Codes: Avery Island (70513); Delcambre (70528); Erath (70533) and Lake Arthur (70549).

Offices in the in the 706 ZIP Code area with suspended delivery and retail services are: Lake Charles (70601, 70605, 70611 and 70615) Cameron (70631); Creole (70632); Grand Chenier (70643); Rosepine (70659); Singer (70660); Starks (70661); Sulphur (70663); Vinton (70668) and Westlake (70669).

Partial service is available at: Metairie (70003, 70005); Dulac (70353); Slidell (70458, 70460); Hackberry (70645); Hayes (70646); Kinder (70648) and Mandeville (70471).

All other Louisiana offices are unaffected or have returned to full service.

The suspension of Standard Mail (Letters and Flats) and Periodicals Mail remains in effect for ZIP Code 395

Partial services are available at the following Mississippi offices: Gulfport (39501, 39507); Bay St. Louis (39520); Stennis Space Center (39529); Biloxi (39530); Kiln (39556); Pascagoula (39567); Pass Christian (39571) and Pearlington (39572).

All other Mississippi offices are unaffected or have returned to full service.

Drop shipments to the Gulfport Plant and any delivery and retail units in ZIP Codes 395 are suspended until further notice.

Drop shipments are resumed by appointment only in ZIP Codes 369, 393, 394 and 396. Drop shipments for these zones will not be accepted without appointments.

The Postal Service is not accepting Express Mail for destinations in the 776 and 777 ZIP Code areas.

All drop shipments into ZIP Codes 776 and 777 are suspended until further notice. Under no circumstances should drop shipments for these ZIP Codes be entered at alternate sites.

DELL OFFERS FREE SHIPPING THROUGH DECEMBER VIA USPS

HOLD FOR PICKUP. Need to pick up a new computer over the weekend? Thanks to a new USPS endorsement called “Hold For Pickup,” you’ll be able to do just that at a nearby Post Office.

Dell, Inc., one of the world’s largest direct-to-consumer shippers, will be offering free shipping now through the holiday season for customers who would prefer to pick up their merchandise at a local Post Office.

POSTAL OPERATIONS RESUMING IN GULF COAST

OPERATIONS RESUMING. Power is making its way back into the Gulf Coast storm-damaged areas and Post Offices are taking full advantage of it. The number of Texas offices offering partial services stands at 59. Cleanup is slow-going for storm-stricken Louisiana — retail and delivery services remain suspended to 45 Louisiana offices.
